The Amulet, Shepton Mallet
Brutalist style in Somerset
Prompted by Mags Halliday’s excellent write up, we had pit stop on our way back from Lyme Regis to appreciate The Amulet in Shelton Mallet.
Mags blog will tell you all you need to know about this wonderful building so I’ll be brief. It’s a brutalist style theatre gifted to the town by Francis Showering (who invented Babycham) and opened in 1975. Its modernism sits comfortably with the neighbouring Georgian style buildings. The Amulet is no longer a theatre but that will hopefully change soon thanks to the Buy The Amulet campaign and support from the 20th Century Society.
